Spay/Neuter Procedure

Parker Animal Care - Spay & Neuter Surgery

At Parker Animal Care, we always recommend spay/neuter procedure for companion animals. Spaying refers to the removal of the ovaries and uterus in female animals. Once a dog or cat is spayed, they will no longer have heat periods, and will not be able to become pregnant. Being responsible for an expecting pet is an expensive and stressful process, especially if unplanned!

Neutering refers to the removal of the testes of male animals. Neutered males tend to display less aggressive behaviors and have a lessened desire to roam in search of a mate. They will also be less likely to mark their territory with their urine, especially if the procedure is performed before they form the habit. While surgery can be scary, these routine procedures bring a number of health benefits to your pet.

Some benefits to spaying/neutering include:

  • Helps prevent cancers such as mammary, ovarian, and uterine tumors in females, and testicular and prostate cancers in males
  • Reduces unwanted behavioral problems such as aggression, territorial marking, and roaming
  • Pets who have been spayed or neutered tend to have longer lifespans
  • Helps combat the issue of pet overpopulation & over crowding of animal shelters from unplanned litters

Our doctors take your pet's safety and comfort very seriously. For that reason, all pets receive pre-surgical bloodwork before their procedure to ensure they are healthy enough to undergo surgery. During the procedure your pet receives IV fluids, balanced anesthesia, and close monitoring during and after the procedure. The doctor will call you after to update you on how everything went and answer any and all questions you might have. Upon pick up, detailed discharge instructions will be provided to you with details on pain medications and how to care for your pet at home.
