The staff at Parker Animal Care loves our community, and believes service to the community and assisting the incredible work of local animal welfare organizations is central to being a superlative veterinary practice. Service will always be interwoven with who we are as a practice.
We are always open to forming new relationships, collaborating, and sharing to support small local organizations in order to give back to our community.
We have volunteered and work closely with Pets Assisting the Lives of Seniors (PALS). PALS provides assistance in caring for the pets of current Meals on Wheels Central Texas clients. These pets provide much needed companionship and help to reduce the isolation and loneliness that many of the homebound seniors and adults with disabilities they serve experience. The PALS program keeps clients and their pets together, living at home with dignity.
We offer free wellness exams to all shelter organizations in town, including APA and the Austin Animal Center (ACC). Both of these organizations are no-kill shelters and have played key roles in making Austin the largest and longest running No Kill city in the nation.
We have also partnered with Classic Canines to help provide reduced cost services to their foster pets. Classic Canines minimizes shelter stay times for senior dogs within public and private sector shelter systems, locating foster, adoption and rescue opportunities, removing medical barriers to adoption, and educating the public of the many benefits of senior dog ownership.
Work directly with the Long Stay Project by sharing content & posting featured dogs in our lobby. Due to the constant overcrowding issues at animal shelters, some dogs have been there for months or even years. The Long Stay Project helps relieve stress from shelter life and helps long-stay pups stay socialized. They also feature looked-over rescues on social media platforms, encouraging prospective pet owners to take a close look, and helping deserving dogs find their forever home.
We help serve as a donation drop off spot for Safe In Austin Rescue Ranch, a local sanctuary for children and animals that come from abuse or have special needs. Theirs animals provide healing and hope to trauma, at-risk, and/or special needs people; these are the animals who triumph and inspire worldwide.
